Union [Graphic Novel]
Union, by Michael A. Stackpole, featuring artwork by Robert Teranishi, was published by Dark Horse Comics in 2000.
From the back of the trade paperback:
After the destruction of the second Death Star and the demise of the Empire, the New Republic thrives. But there are many who remain true to the spirit oand evil designs of the Emperor. So when Luke Skywalker, the New Republic's greatest hero and sole Jedi Master, decides to marry Mara Jade, the woman who was once the Emperor's personal assassin, you can be sure that hands both Imperial and Republican will be raised to stop the marriage--at any cost!
My Review:
For several months I have waited for this book, a barely eighth-of-an-inch thick trade paperback. Why, you ask? Mostly curiosity. After all, this was the wedding of Luke Skywalker we were talking about! A very important event in Star Wars history, and I was wondering how it would be handled.
To start with, the graphics in this comic are absolutely beautiful. They have a photographic look to them, and are some of the best drawings I've ever seen in a comic book. One of my favorite parts was a hilarious scene with Mara trying on wedding dresses, none of which... um... suited her taste. It was also very nice to see cameos from expanded universe characters such as Tionne, Talon Karrde, Booster Terrik and the Solo children. The plot is a little weak, however. The bad guys aren't very strong, and the conclusion of the story is unrealistic. Over all, it was a very enjoyable read, although I'm not sure it was worth the twelve ninety-five price tag. It was almost worth it just to see Mara in her wedding gown. ;-)
