Balance Point  [by Kathy Tyers]

Balance Point, by Kathy Tyers, was published in 2000 by Del Rey. It is the sixth novel in the New Jedi Order series.

From the Publisher:

Now veteran Star Wars author Kathy Tyers continues the epic struggle between good and evil as the New Republic, led by the battered but still unbroken Jedi, braces for the next onslaught of its merciless alien foe. Poisoned by centuries of technological excess, the planet Duro is an unlivable hell, long abandoned by its own inhabitants, who dwell above their polluted world in orbital habitats. But there is no place else to channel the flood of refugees fleeing the murderous Yuuzhan Vong. So a deal is struck: In exchange for a new home, the refugees will work to restore the planet to health, under the watchful eye of Leia Organa Solo.

Mara Jade's Part:
[WARNING: major spoilers for those who haven't read this novel]

This is one of the best Star Wars novels I've read in quite a while... and I'm very happy to say that there's a definite increase in Mara activity. She's signifigantly healed, and is becoming more of her own self! At the beginning of the book, she and Anakin hunt down a Yuuzhan Vong on Coruscant. It is very interesting watching Mara teach Anakin her "skulking" skills. Then Mara, Luke, and Anakin head to the planet Duro to help the refugee crisis there. Eventually, Mara and Jaina meet up with a very familiar bad guy; anybody who's read Vector Prime will be glad that they do. Also in this part of the book, it is very interesting to see Mara's prowess at disguises: something we haven't seen very much of previously. There's also something else very exciting in this book that I'd like to reveal: Mara Jade is pregnant! I think it is just wonderful that Luke and Mara are finally having a child. Their bickering over whether it will be a boy or a girl is very cute. Anyway, I just wanted to mention that. ;)
