Happy Birthday Princess Leia:
Due to server trouble, I could not post this when it should have been, but here it is, for all those devoted fans: HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCESS LEIA! This last Saturday (10/21/00), was Carrie Fisher's 44th birthday! Carrie Fisher, of course, is best known for her role as Leia Organa in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Even though everybody knows Fisher performed wonderfully as Leia, she herself thinks it overshadows her other work. So in honor of that, here is a list of some other films she has appeared in:
Amazon Women on the Moon, Appointment with Death, The Blues Brothers, The 'Burbs, Frankenstein, Garbo Talks, Hannah and Her Sisters, Hollywood Vice Squad, Loverboy, The Man with One Red Shoe, Mr. Mike's Mondo Video, Paul reiser Out on a Whim, Shampoo, She's Back, Sibling Rivalry, Soapdish, Sweet Revenge, This Is My Life, The Time Guardian, Under the Rainbow, When Harry Met Sally.
Fisher is also an accompished screenplay writer, and has written several books. Once again HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Matters Trivial:
Here it is, for all those of you who come to the Trivia Games department every time you come to the site, and who have memorized the old Empire Strikes Back quiz! Now, you can actually type in your answers and find out whether you're right immediately. I was inspired to make it this way by a friend of mine who came to the site and said, "I went to the Trivia part, but how do you do it?"
Now, I'm going to need lots of material to have a different quiz every week, which is what I'd prefer. I'd also like to make each quiz have more questions. Feel free to send me all the trivial things you can think of -- difficult or extremely easy, I'll take anything. Oh, please send the answers too. There is a chance that I won't know the answer already! I hope you enjoy this revised department -- start sending!
All Star Wars Eve:
With the start of October, stores around the country are filling their isles with all imaginable ghoulish attire and accessories to help trick-or-treaters far and wide adorn themselves for Halloween. Star Wars fans will find many familiar faces among the racks of generic costumes: Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, Queen Amidala, and Jar Jar Binks included. And if you're lucky you'll find something from the original trilogy. But, for many fans, these plastic imitations are not enough. I admit I am one of these devoted fans, and what's more, you would not find my character of choice in any drug or department store. Yes, that's right, ladies and gentleman, this Halloween I'm Mara Jade.
Now, while I may not be joining the legions of children ringing doorbells around the country, I still find it an appropriate time to fix myself up with an impressive Mara Jade costume. Several months ago I was lucky enough to find a sleeveless black jumpsuit, very similar to Mara's famous leather get-up. Much more than this I haven't worked out, but these are all trivial details. The really important thing, as any Jedi will tell you, is the lightsaber. While I am not ambitious enough to try a plexiglass tube with neon light, I will try to make a realistic handle. It may seem appropriate to make a copy of Luke's first 'saber, but I would rather fashion my own (as any true Jedi would). When I finish, I will post the entire story--and hopefully some pictures of the process along the way.
Well, now that you've heard my idea, what are you doing? Any elaborate Star Wars costumes being planned out there? Tell me your stories and whether you want me to post them on the site. E-mail me. I'll keep you posted.
